Verkís provides services for the design and supervision of all aspects of tunnel construction, both in Iceland and abroad.
The company has been involved in the design of almost all road tunnels in Iceland, supervising the construction of concrete portals and control rooms inside the tunnel and at portals. In addition, we have supervised the coordination and compilation of tender documents and their publication.
In Iceland, roads have been built around steep mountains or across steep mountainsides, and transport in areas like these has often been difficult. Heavier traffic and increasing demands for better transport routes and improved traffic safety are the main reasons that tunnels have been built in such areas.
Starting with the building of the Hvalfjörður tunnel in 1996-1998, Verkís has been involved in almost all road-tunnel building in Iceland.
